About Black on White
The concept of 'Black on White' came through my love of black and white portraiture. When I was in my teens, I was hugely influenced by David Bailey's stark black and white portraits, where he used strong lighting and placed his subjects against brilliant white backgrounds.
I chose to produce a collection where all the subjects were black. I think black skin has the most beautiful look and texture. Previously I had done one or two art nude shoots and I hit on the idea of producing a panel of fine art nudes featuring black models photographed in black and white.
Images from the collection have won numerous national and international awards. Black on White has been awarded the Fellowship with both the Master Photographers Association (MPA) and the British Institute of Professional Photography (BIPP). Both bodies exist to promote quality and excellence in professional photography. One of the images has also won a Grand Award with WPPI in America.
I am very much aware that some photographers choose to make a statement or express a personal view through their work. I do none of this. I simply like to create images that I hope people will find pleasing to view. I will leave it to you to interpret the images in your own way. To put it simply, 'Black on White' celebrates the beauty of black skin and the female form in black and white photography.
In the months to come, I will continue to add images to the collection, which are available for sale here.
I hope you enjoy viewing the collection.
